Balance

I know exactly what you mean Gary, in fact many physicians were concerned about these trends as early as 1954.

By saving countless lives that would have naturally died - you create an imbalance in a society illequiped to deal with the burden.

After saving the newborns and would be stillborns and allowing them to go through the first few years almost always hungry - many die anyway of starvation during their childhood or by aids before they are 25.

What sort of life is this? It is not life itself that is sacred...but rather the quality of life. A commuted death sentence between wall to wall misery isn't a goal the west should be striving for and in fact in these regions great suffering has been the result of these many guilt-ridden do-gooders.

Imagine the US absorbed 3/4 of China's poor provinces population - 750 million people. The US would be the US no longer and the poor would literally eat the resources of the USA in short order. The economy would tank and we would be living like many do in South Africa - with polarized extremes of a few elite rich and hordes and hordes of miserable poor.

In essence this is what these doctors have brought to Africa...even more suffering. Folks staying alive just long enough to add a few more starving poor to the world in even more misery.

It is a Greek tragedy full of pathos and farcical humor.

However, mention this and you are likely to be slapped down as a racist and inhuman...when really you are far more human, caring and compassionate than these ignorant doctors and bleeding hearts could ever understand.

While I hate to point this out for the same reasons - nature via promiscuity and aids to any objective, unbiased observer - is apparently attempting to undo what the doctors have done with diptheria, TB and every other innoculation given to the unwashed, miserable hordes.

In Afghanistan, I would prefer to see birth control taught before midwifing - but some of these organizations are funded by folks dead set against such education - another Greek tragedy in the making.

Missionaries have in many ways simultaneously helped and ruined the lives of peoples living in Mexico, the Phillipines and anywhere birth control has been shunned. The sweaty hordes burden the infrastructure and the economy and progress, or getting ahead simply is beyond the grasp of cultures just trying to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.

Yes...what to do? What to do?

Hope for inward reform and population control? That is as unlikely to occur as the moon being a giant egg awaiting to hatch.

Hope for a plague worse than aids to balance things out? Seems monstrous and inhuman.

No easy answers.
