Re: The right to be left alone

Thanks for sharing that story about the young mother, but especially for you to take the time to express your views of the new rules you live under as a librarian.
I guess it's a thankless job, but has it's personal rewards in all the people you help and the youngsters you inspire.
And I'm sure you're not paid that well for your time either. This imposition to your job description sounds a little like Nazi Germany, where no-one dared speak.
A legal search warrant signed by a judge with, perhaps, a confidentiality agreement would be the better way to go.
That way you would not be personally intimidated, or even hesitant to co-operate.
By having these legal "threats" to your career, just how many people do you think will choose to be a librarian on their own if they have to work under the gun like this?
Civil liberties, yeah right.

We have PLENTY of controls in place right now, but there are many back room political deals we know nothing about, that serve special interests and their monies. The FBI and CIA are not known for their trustworthiness, and the new Patriot Act gives free reign and a free license for a totalitarian society under our noses.
I think we, as a nation, could be moving towards a semblance of the Old Guard of China.
