Re:Democracy?

Somehow, if we impose democracy on them, it's the best way not to have it, there.
They need to recognize its merits on their own, otherwise it will be considered as a neo-colonial western way of governing a country.
I remember seing a exerpt of a talk show on Al Jazeera with a poltical discussion involving two opposite points of view and both sides were either not listening to each other or ignoring each other or even insulting each other. The anchorman later admitted democracy is impossible in many arab countries. It's a matter of temperament.
I also saw an Iranian woman journalist participating in a debate about international matters on BBC world: what goes on in Iran is about the establishment of a state separate from religion versus a religious state, not about democracy.
Of course it would be nice to have freedom and democracy in those countries! But they need to make themselves its discovery.
Now, imagine Iraq is freed from Saddam....What happens? The Shi-ites take over? A new religious state is born, thanks to the misery in which its former dictator and the UN sanctions have left the population?
The US may have the best weapons in the world, but they cannot change a country's state of mind.
