When westerners visited Afghanistan in the early 70's, they were welcomed, greeted like kings when they'd stop in a village.
After the war and the appearance of the Taliban regime, things completely changed and Afghanistan wasn't at all the place to visit as we heard what was going on there.
Visiting Israel meant totally different expectations.
