Are 37,000 Americans and the ROKs going to stop 1.5 million North Koreans if they decide to move?
Do you think Americans were stationed in Germany to prevent the Russians from invading Europe?
(Hint - Everyone knew if the Russians came those Americans were dead or prisoners. Period.)
I think you're in Korea simply to up the ante for the North Koreans. And that's a very, very valuable duty. But not because you would stop them if it got hot.
I realize you are trained to believe you're invincible, and any three companies of you could stop the Earth from rotating should you choose.
I used to have to spend a lot of time in isolated areas with a guy who had been an infantry sergeant on the Yalu when the Chicoms came across. After we had spent some time together, with enough booze, he'd talk about how they were routed, chased, and run down. According to him, there wasn't a retreat, there were a bunch of individuals trying to save their lives.
Too many of 'em.
Why do you think you're in Korea? Or the American Army is in Korea.
