I could not agree more. Daniel Pipes has been saying much the same thing.

The sick meme propagated by the perversion of Islam, Wahhabiism, or "radical Islam" or "Islamists" is itself a cancer and danger to the organism of civilization. The thing that disturbs me to no end is the failure of Muslim clerics to denounce the extremists. Like the Catholic hierarchy's attempts to cover for pedophile priests, this will lead to no good end. Fortunately, independent thinking and corageous Catholic laity and our secular society finally rooted out some of the Church's criminal activities. Unfortunately, the Muslim world lacks a concerned laity, corageous clerics and an environment to protect them. Here in the US we have the environment but not the 1st two.

There is no solution but to discredit and wipe out the meme. Difficult to do. Often involves some massive bloodshed.
