I use Schwab, which costs little or nothing if you are selective about your investments. My IRA accounts are there as well, which are mostly no-load mutual funds and money market. I buy a few shares of individual stocks only for fun, as do the kids (my daughter has shares in Krispy Kreme, which I think is overvalued right now, but is a good long term prospect). Buying individual stocks costs money for the transactions, so I don't do it much. Mutual funds from an extensive selected list can be bought or sold for free. Unfortunately, the kids still get an annual fee because the balance is low, but that will change.
