Re: Unemployment already gets cut-off
Standard unemployment benefits run for 26 weeks. In March, a 13 week extension was added, with provisions for a second 13 week extension. So far that adds up to one solid year, not counting the additional extension proposed in the current Bush program. If you can't find work in a year that gives you a better income than unemployment, you're not trying. Unemployment insurance is intended as an emergency backup. Unlike "the dole" it is not supposed to be a way of life.
