Actually war is most commonly defined as hostilities between MILITARY combatants.
And war in modern times has certain rules of engagement and conventions regarding opposing activists.
9-11 was in no sense war, it was terrorism fought neither to accomplish a victory, nor to gain territory or anything other than the publicity that would induce fear and terror in the victims and their survivors.
And, if you can stretch 9-11 to fit into some cockamamie excuse for a definition of war, then you have condemned the US as war criminals for the violation of the Geneva Conventions for the treatment of prisoners at Guantanamo.
These prisoners are criminals, not on US soil and not entitled to treatment as POW's. Unless, of course, 9-11 was an act of war.
Words have meaning. They don't always mean what you WANT them to mean, no matter how hard you may wish it. 9-11 bares no resemblance to the concept defined as war.
