There is a big difference...

about being happy that a nation has chemical weapons and being happy that when looking for weapons they were found.

These weapons were found because of the shared intelligence the CIA imparted to the U.N. inspectors, who finally knew where to look for a change. It is the proverbial tip of the iceberg.

If your house is on fire and many folks are calling you a liar for saying "fire" and, if anything, are resolute about staying inside the house - you are glad when someone else realizes that, yes, the house indeed IS on fire, since no one seems to believe you.

It means that action can be taken before tragedy occurs.

I have no joy about Iraq's WMD - but I was not for a moment in doubt that he has large arsenals of chemical weapons which he has not declared and which he is stockpiling for use against other nations or for sharing with anti-western terrorists.

Let's be real clear about what was found here - excellent condition shells for deploying chemical weapons. All Saddam needs to do is order any one of these shells filled with whatever bio-horrors he has stashed somewhere, loaded into a weapon and fired, to cause massive human death and tragedy.

Am I glad they were found - heck, yes I am glad they were found. Living like an ostrich with one's head in the sand, ignoring gathering threats and hoping they will go away, is not my idea of a sane international policy. BY their discovery more pressure is exerted upon Saddam by the world community and it increases the possibility, however minutely, that he may abdicate rather than face the wrath of the world.

As long as he feels he can divide and conquer - and he can get the liberals of the world to think the US are mongols - who ravaged and raped half the earth - then he feels he is sitting pretty and can continue his quest for nuclear weapons and greater stockpiles of chemical weapons.

My happy face emoticon was to soften the "Told you so." - which could be construed as a serious minded, harsh criticism - not a gleeful expression about Saddam being a sadistic delusional dictator with WMD at his disposal.

Incidentally, when exactly were the partisan debating folks here having a honeymoon? I must've missed those posts! Who was carried over the threshold?
