Which is why the Republicans market their plans wrong...

Instead of saying: "We want to privatize part of Social security" or "we want to give people a choice on how their Social security dollars are invested"

The right needs to say:

"We want to EXPAND Social Security so that it includes a part B that can be invested in high return investments giving Seniors more money for retirement."

Then let "Part B" be optional. Don't require anyone to take part. Eventually, Part A can be means tested, so the rich only get Part B (or nothing if they opted out) while the poor get both A and B.

Do the same with medicare, where "Part B" could be used to buy private health care insurance from government approved insurers.

Contributions to the "Part B" plans would be made on a pre-tax basis. And the "working poor" could get a tax credit to offset part of their contibution. Much like the Child Care Credit.

Eventually, the "Part B" plans would prove more and more popular, like IRA, 401-k, and 403-b plans: Market driven incrimentalism at its best. Eventually, in 20 years or so, the part B plans would make up most of the SS and Medicare programs and nearly complete privatization will have been achieved by choice.
