Again, the government, and in particular the Democrats, will do nothing that will reduce their power. Nothing in Social Security will ever be opened up to any kind of free choice.

Like with education, the Democrats realize that opening up any part of Social Security to free choice, or making participation in any way voluntary, would mean hordes of people fleeing the government system. Kind of like what happened when they dropped the Berlin Wall.

Medicare operates the same way, with restrictions that pretty much prevent seniors from pursuing almost any private alternatives without being penalized, something that is not true even for some nations with socialized medicine programs. Same goes for doctors who work under Medicare.
