<I don't know - I'd have to check, but it would mean reading all of Scott's and SDAI's posts [shiver].
It was a dark stormy night I had traversed the stormy Atlantic on the stately Queen Elizabeth II, found a new home on a vast continent and yet there was a lurking terror on this new continet which haunted my worst nightmares... reading all of Scott's and SDAI's posts!
Such a horror has no compare - except perhaps waking up and finding Margaret Thatcher is one's wify or John Major is one's poppy!
Now can you find a post where someone specifically called someone here a Nazi?
Other than Larry getting the huff over a reference to Mein Kampf, the only one I recall came close was from SDAI to Bowser for being anti-Semitic, along the lines of "wouldn't want to be wearing a gold star around you".
Well, to be honest I wouldn't.
If we had that search engine function and type in "Bowser, bomber" we could quickly link to upwards of twenty or thirty posts that justify suicide bombers defending their land from zionist invasion as their only choice against a superior armed military. Tom must've made fifty more posts arguing that there is a difference in targeting civilians - but Bowser refused to accept that on the premise Israelis were somehow targeting civilians and so Palestinians had no choice but to become human explosive martyrs.
While Bowser may not buckle on the explosives - his posts regarding the topic left one with no other conclusion but that he was sharing the "push Israel into the sea" mentality of the former King Saud. Knowing how several folks here identify themselves as jewish - made me even more uncomfortable.
Maybe he was just being contrarian, and was trying to push Tom's buttons - but it's one of the less flattering foreign policy positions one can assume.
and re: Mary anne's tactic?
I would say it's more your tactic. You fire a broadside at the left, then when somone calls you on it you say "didn't mean you".
You're only talking about politicians, not the people whoi vote for them.
Ever wonder why someone would vote for a Democrat politician? Couldn't possibly be because they happen to agree with his principles and/or stands on certain issues.
I think Tom is trying to be civil to folks who post here, because of the sharper edge and general compassion and shared respect of the posters. However it's clear to me he's focusing upon the far, far edge of the left - the one that's so far left it's come full circle and overlapped the right and is now smothering itself. Pat Buchanan is an example of it's polar opposite.
Official socialist organizations follow very clear agendas and beliefs. The repudiation of capitalism is foremost among them, and they have only exlcuded the anti-American Government stuff so they will not be outlawed.
I personally do not identify with any "-ISM" so strongly that I conform to any platform or fixed beliefs. While strongly conservative - my views are by no means a mainstream position within ANY political institution. Capitalism is not perfect, but it allows FAR more liberty than socialism or communism and that is why I support it. I think we all have visions of social utopias free of crime and prejudice - but only some of us realize, upon deeper examination, that the utopia always must suppress those who don't wish to conform to the ideals of this utopian society - in essence the utopia ALWAYS must conceal a secret tyranny.
Once one realizes this one sees that a democratic capitalism is, so far, the closest system to a real utopia - despite its flaws and those who abuse such a system.
If you're getting tired of our tactic, try dropping yours.
cheers,
Tony
Tom is shooting for the fringes. He probably really believes everyone here is a closet conservative or awaiting salvation by accepting free-market capitalism and constitutional government as their personal saviour.

PS
If I am patting you too hard on the head -just let me know. I'll try and perfect that soft, oh-so-gentle, patronizing tap a bit better.
