then I do not think there should even be a debate. A member of an Alliance requests aid, you go. You do not ask.
This could be the end of NATO, or the start of a morph into something more relvant and cohesive. NATO managed to survive without France before, while Germany is still pretty new at even being asked what it thinks on foreign policy issues.
It's not likely to be the end of the UN much to the chagrin of the US right.

Now if Turkey had invoked Article 4 as an excuse for, say, stationing a whole bunch of US soldiers near the Iraqi border, then I have a problem with that.....
