It is NOT Blix's job to find weapons. It is Blix's job to oversee an orderly disarmament procedure. It is obvious to anyone with a working forebrain that Saddam is hiding something. Probably a great deal of something.

You saw Powell's presentation. Did he make it all up? Is there a legitimate reason to tear a suspected chem weapons site down, and excavate the topsoil around it before an inspection?

Saddam has a proven history of pursuing development of WMD, including nuclear. He was stopped by the Israelis once, and by us the next time. Is there any reason to assume he has gotten religion lately, and given it all up?

If there are no weapons programs, why is Saddam threatening scientists with death if they talk? Talk about what? If there are no weapons programs being hidden, what dangerous subjects are the scientists going to talk about? The goddam weather??

Where the hell is simple common sense here?

What exactly would qualify as a "smoking gun," short of a warhead detonated in Tel Aviv?

I can't figure out all the motivations here. I really can't. It can't just be anti-war...none of these anti-war groups gave a peep when Clinton was bombing all across the planet. Who benefits from Saddam remaining in power? Because that's what they are working for. I have some ideas about the Europeans--financial, and things best left unrevealed. And I know a few Americans who would cheerfully see half the planet in flames if George W. Bush and the hated Republicans burned with it. But what about everyone else?

"Oh, I think Saddam should be disarmed, and maybe even removed from power, but I don't approve of military force to do it." I've heard idiots actually say this. Similar logic: "I believe we should go to the Moon, and colonize Mars, but I don't believe in space travel."

And, still nothing from ANYONE about alternatives to the military in doing this.
