Motivations

I dunno where you were when Clinton was lobbing missiles all over but I heard plenty of criticism - including from me (but not Ed, he supports all CinC's decision, no matter who - sorry, couldnt resist).
And the only time I think he even threatened invasion - Haiti - there were cries all around(often on the right).

What is Bush's (and the right's) motivation in all of this?
Why is he/they/you so gung-ho about ousting Saddam?
It cant be terrorism - besides the Iraq/Al Qaeda link being the waekest argument in the playbook, there was plenty of talk of ousting before 9/11.
It cant be "Saddam's a bad guy" - he's been a bad guy since he was born and there are plenty others to go round.
I don't believe the oil connection one bit.
I don't believe Saddam is any where near capable of building a nuclear weapon.

There's only two things I can think of that ring true...
One is righting Pappy's mistakes.
Particularly that one where Pops asked the Iraqis to rise up, then allowed the remnants of the Revolutionary Guard past the US forces in the north and south to quell the uprising.

The other is providing a war stimulus (remember - increased government spending is OK if it goes on bombs) to a flailing economy.

cheers,
Tony
