“The proposal has little popular support -- hundreds of thousands of Turks protested on the streets of Ankara, and public opinion polls show that more than 90 percent of the population opposes war.”
One issue for the Turks is whether or not they have a representative government. If their "democracy" is to continue it needs to reflect the will of the people, within constitutional bounds,
Another is the morality of a foreign power subverting a democracy. No one with a real interest in "democracy" would bribe leaders to act against the interests of the governed.
That's done by drug dealers, quite a bit, that sort of folk.
Arf (this is a bit abstract for some people, I know.)
