Iraq may be uniquely situated to progess quickly
It has a large middle class of educated people, they are multi-cultural, and many are getting tired of suffering under the kleptocratic tyranny of saddam and the baathists.
The nation has so far avoided the most extreme forms of Islamo-fascism. The secular fascism of the baathists may be easier to root out.
The petroleum resources, managed so as to maximize benefits to the Iraqi people would be a trememndous change from the saddam-led wastage of the national assets.
Very significant capital could be flowing into Iraq relatively quickly once a civil governement is in place and the oil reserves start to recover from their neglect.
