Unfortunatly though, many parents try to dis-suede their child from doing the right thing for very selfish reasons.

That's true whether their child is considering joining the military, or admiting guilt when involved in wrongdoing, or even something as simple as trying to disuade their child from moving across the country to accept a better job.

John Walker Lindh's parents seemed to let their child drift off into some kind of moral vacuum.

My message is that it is a parents job to teach their child right from wrong. If they don't do it, their child risks falling in with people who will fill them with a false sense of right and wrong.
