If you read the story past the deliberately provocative lead paragraph, it's pretty fuzzy. The only thing confirmed is that he was attacked by another inmate, which is not exactly front page news in a prison. Everything else is from unnamed sources and a crank phone call to the newspaper.
I don't think he deserved the death penalty, but I'm perfectly happy that he got a prison sentence. A lot of kids had rough childhoods that didn't go join a terrorist army.
