...but they're not and so it sound more like Bowser type slander.
The forces going in are going specifically for Iraqi regime targets. Military bases, radar installations, missile sites, palaces and the Army and more importantly the Republican Guards.
The regular army will collapse like a tent in a dust storm. The people will likely flee to safe havens once the troops surrender or desert.
The only major loss of civilian lives may come through Saddam's actions.
If there indeed were a way to avoid collateral damage we would undertake it. The latest guided munitions should help avoid the accidental bombing fatalities of the previous gulf war (other than the civilian human shields placed by Saddam)
I personally do not think the fighting in Baghdad will last more than a week, before control is achieved and victory declared my "gut" feeling is it will last about 86 hours after our tanks roll into Baghdad.
Saddam will flee. If he has not already done so. He will not be found unless his henchmen try to deal away his location. But Saddam is the type likely to shoot those who help him escape so they cannot talk.
His sons will likely flee also - but my bet is we can nab one of them before they do.
Remember the people of Iraq, in Iraq, as well as those who have seeked asylum in other nations have asked for intervention far more times than the people of Germany ever did in 1943 - and we went right on rolling to Berlin.
It will be the dawn of a new prosperity in the region. Literally, the middle east could become a paradise in comparison to its present status - and within just a decade.
Some folks say the cup is half empty, others half full - then there are those of us who don't talk and just drink it!
