Gee could it be working in a hurry or reason to believe it??
Gathering all possible info in a short time and presenting it without time to adequately check it. They were obviously stretching. Laying everything they could without compromising sources. Perhaps they have better evidence that can't be divulged so they didn't doubt the accuracy of a faked report. I think it is clear that at least fact checking was negligent. I do really doubt we couldn't have done a better job of fakery.
