Tom, drop that. You turning an honest attempt into a red herring. Are you surprised that *I*, a software engineer from Oklahoma, did not come up with the immediate solution? The honest evaluation is that no real attempt was made. No national and/or international discussion was had outside the 'were going to war so piss on you' diplomacy of Bush. No open discussion of options. Not by Bush before war and not by Clinton during his tenure, and not by Bush Sr. after war. An abysmal failure that DOES NOT JUSTIFY THIS WAR.
At some point, reasonable partisans myst agree that there is indeed an elephant in the room. No attempt was made in 12 years. And in fact, when the North was close to over-throwing baghdad, we betrayed them.
