From the US CDC - Mar. 26 reported cases worldwide. - in 14 countries, 1324 cases, 49 deaths, so 3.7% death rate so far, but most of the cases are new. March 17 there were only 167 cases and 4 deaths reported, from 7 countries.
The CDC site suggests that 10-20% of cases may require mechanical ventilation. I presume that means cases where other medical support is good. Of course many places don't have either of those options, and even in developed counties the number of ventilators is pretty limited if there were to be a major outbreak. If you need a ventilator and there isn't one, you are going to die.
This could just blow over, I hope so, but it has the potential of being very serious.
