From what I have seen of what a cruise missile can do

And from seeing what limited pics of the damage to the marketplace I have seen- well I am inclined to believe the pentagon on this one.... I am not an expert on this but I think that a cruise missile would leave a lot less standing....

I also would not put it past saddam to bomb his own people for political gain....
