Re: Arithmetic is not my strong point

I'm afraid that you're missing the point of my post.

Yes, balancing the in-flow and the out-flow is a tricky prospect, but my point had to do with groups, such as this, drumming up a false cause in an effort to attack those who supported the war. (This particular Congressman has been very Hawkish toward Saddam) I'm afraid, now that the war has clearly been tipped in our favor, that we're going to see more and more of this. The outrageous claims that the U.S. could stand to loose thousands of troops, or that this was going to turn into another Vietnam, or that the people of Iraq didn't WANT to be liberated and would rise up against us, can no longer hold any water. So now these groups are going to shift gears and start using lies to attack those who supported this winning war effort.

The fact is, this group claimed to be protesting the Congressman's vote in favor of a budget that would slash veterans' benefits. When, in fact, public record shows that the budget approved in the House (with his vote) increases spending on veterans benefits from $57.597 Billion in 2003, to $61.567 Billion in 2004. The protest organizer that I spoke to even lied about the benefits being reduced over the next ten years. In fact, the budget the House passed calls for this spending to increase to $74.518 by 2013!

It's all a bunch of lies!

As far as the in-flow/out-flow issue, I'll have to agree with Tom about cutting pork. I believe we could absolutely pay for everying this country needs, both socially and militarily, AND allow working Americans to keep more of the money they earn....IF we cut all of the spending on crap. Democrats and Republicans could both stand to learn a little lesson on this.
