I haven't researched this in detail, but remember that one is not "creating" oil (energy), but simply converting some other organic substance into a more useful organic substance. Like getting alcohol from wood or grain.
In theory, you could get just as much raw energy by burning the original chicken guts, it just wouldn't work very well.
