Re: There is something going on with this WMD stuff

There is something indeed that is not adding up here, but in such a way that I can't figure it out from any direction.

Saddam Hussein, before the war, was certainly not behaving like someone who did not have active WMD programs going.

He could have opened all the doors, released GOOD paperwork, let the inspectors run through, and given some small sign of real cooperation. If he had nothing to hide, why not go through the charade and get to keep his palaces?

Instead, we had suspicious movements of materials, death threats on scientists, obstructionism of the U.N. inspectors at every turn. Why?

So where did everything go? Don says we have no evidence of the stuff going to Syria, and he's technically right, but this is like losing track of a gang of criminals in El Paso, Texas and trying to figure out where they might have gone from there. Canada maybe? New Jersey?

But would Saddam trust Syrian thugs with his stuff? Why?

Get inside Saddam's head. Yeah, I know. It's dark and smelly in there.

The army is massing outside your country. You have about a month to figure something out. Your ego won't permit you to think you will die or be permanently deposed...hey, you came back from exile once, right?

Where can you put all the good stuff where nobody, but nobody will find it except you and a trusted few cronies? Where you can get at it again when you come back into power? Somewhere in Iraq. There's no time to build new bunkers...and so many people know where the old ones are.

Long lost caves? Canyons? Simply burying something in a hole in the middle of nowhere and covering it up?

Or maybe something as simple as destroying all physical evidence and walking off with the research results on five CD-ROMs and a suitcase full of vials?
