Kind of apples and oranges
unlike SARS, which can be spread unawares, AIDS almost requires that you catch it on purpose, via promiscuous sexual practices, or drug use (with the exceptions of babies who get it from their mothers, blood transfusion victims, and a few other rare cases). As far as anyone knows, it is not spread by normal casual contact of any kind. One can safely live in a house with an HIV-positive person, for example.
While some form of restrictions may have been useful in early stages of AIDS, never mind some form of self-restraint on the part of certain groups, any reasonably prudent person has nothing to fear in the current stages of the disease.
