Most people who were unaware of the hijackings--almost everyone--assumed the first collision was an accident. Bush was no different. An accident of this type does not normally require the hands-on action of the President. I notice he did not personally direct the emergency procedures after the earthquake here.
As for the "mystery statement:"
By simply assuming the omission of a single word in an off-the-cuff comment,*
"I saw an airplane hit the tower" becomes "I saw an airplane had hit the tower."
One can assume an error in speaking (a rare phenomenon for Bush to be sure) or a misquote from a reporter. Or one can assume the President of the United States destroyed a section of downtown New York and thousands of American citizens for political gain. I guess you have to decide that one for yourself.
Why not save everyone a lot of trouble, assume that Bush is one of the Lizard People of the Great Galactic Conspiracy, have yourself committed, and enjoy your daily applesauce ration?
