Re: TR and WW

Roosevelt received the 1906 Peace Prize for negotiating the end of the Russo-Japanese War. You have perhaps forgotten that he resigned from his office as Secretary of the Navy in order to enlist as an officer and to found and lead the "Roughriders" in the Spanish-American War almost a decade earlier. He did not "lead USA into war" - William Randolph Hearst did.

Wilson received the 1919 Peace Prize for founding the League of Nations after World War I - a war Wilson vehemently opposed America becoming involved in until public opinion demanded otherwise. He lead America during the war; he did not lead us into it.

Wilson's framework for peace discussions - eight points involve more or less specific territorial and political problems, and six deal with general principles of international relations: "open covenants", "freedom of navigation", removal of economic barriers, reduction of armaments, adjustment of colonial claims, and - most famous - "a general association of nations".

-- footnote 2 from this page, regarding Wilson's "Fourteen Points".

More Leftist politics, I suppose...

Bottom line: the nomination of Bush and Blair for a Peace Prize is, at best, premature. It is far too soon to tell if their bull-headed circumvention of international due process bought a larger peace.
