Aa fighting force the UN is impotent. I saw the pictures today on the news of everyone huddled outside the UN compound, but can the soldiers do anything? no. They can't protect the civilians, just the compound, its their rules of engagement.
the UN has the worste rules of engagement. In the Balkans, so I hear, the ROE were such that if someone were aproaching you with a hand grenade you could not fire on them, because they had not attacked yet. Once they threw a hand grenade, you still couldn't fire on them, because they already threw it and were thus 'unarmed'.
<sarcasm>Yeagh, we really should have let the UN handle post war Iraq </sarcasm>
