Blaming the current tax cut for the $44 trillion debt load is like blaming global warming on my garage space heater. Maybe you can make a case for my making a moral point by turning the heater off, but it isn't going to really change anything. Economic growth is our only chance for even postponing the crisis.
The only thing that will fix the deficit situation is to grapple the spending problems, and the hard, inescapable truth is that the vast majority of said spending is entitlement wealth redistribution. And that, primarily for the elderly. We have arrived at a situation where for some reason turning 65 gives one a blank check on the rest of America. Even now, the blithering idiots in Washington are preparing to add another massive entitlement to the crushing load.
My own call is that the country will collapse before it addresses the real problems. Politicians who stand up and show that somewhere benefits are going to have to be ramped back will be politically devoured by their fellows and thrown from office. The ones who soothingly tell us that we can have our cake and eat it too...in fact we can get a piece of everyone else's cake in the bargain...will win elections, and ruin the nation.
This comes of constructing a political system where one can legally vote themselves cash from the Treasury, but that horse has long ago left the barn.
I see no workable solutions. The taxes supposedly required to fix this...66 percent increases on EVERYONE...would simply make the end quicker.
There's no such thing as a free lunch. Unfortunately, we have many politicians and voters who insist that the free lunch is what government is all about.
