This old Internet poll done in 1998 is what old Ed is on about, I believe. My fundamental question would be...what question was put to the folks?...
Quoting EP himself...
***Several weeks ago I suggested to Alan Boyle at the MSNBC internet news
that they conduct a poll on the matter, and they did.
Of 8480 responses, 27% wanted action now and 29% added it to their list of
worries, for 56% favoring some action. 27% thought that the threat was
being exaggerated, while 17% held other or no opinion.
These numbers were taken after Deep Impact opened, and it will be
interesting to see what effect Armageddon has on them.***

How this gets us the public doesn't want money spend on Mars Exploration is beyond me as we seem to be spending a bunch on it...right now! I don't hear a protest even over the RHUs in the Rovers...maybe three peopel showed up for that and left before the launch. Maybe that is why they delay the launch, Rich.

- EP says, I want "your" Mars money spent on impact research, as does the vast majority of the population. Vast Majority? Where do you get that?
- Seriously, though
