You want me to say a particular thing, and I won't say it. So you say I sidestep and avoid.
>>>No, I make specific points regarding the facts fo American history regarding security laws and enforcement during past wars and those points are ignored by you.
I have made them on this bbs multiple occasions and they are ignored. I call that sidestepping.
You expect me to tell you that people who say they are librarians because they distribute print materials are librarians. They aren't.
>>>No, I don't. I simply point out that printed material can be distributed by many people and that reading rooms in, say most of the world outside of Cuba and North Korea, are free to do as they please.
You expect me to say that, because librarians working in Cuba are employed by the Cuban government, they are automatically toadies. You have no proof that this is so, and I refuse to insult them because you have preconceptions about their approach to their work.
>>>No, I know from Cubans, from things I have read in libraries and from listening to the news that Cuba is a vicious totalitarian regime in documented reality and that Castro's regime controls as many aspects of Cuban life as possible. Whether a particular librarian is a deliberate part of the state security system or is simply in compliance is not important. The fact is that libraries in Cuba are NOTHING like what you call free libraries here except that there are books on shelves. That you seem to defend that because the people ahve jobs called 'librarians' is unfathomable to me when I read your other positions on what you believe may happen here if the worst that you fear were to come true.
You say that the ALA is dominated by Marxists.
>>>Please point out where I said that?
I believe I have never said that. I pointed out the quite reasonable observation that ALA is inconsistent vis a vis Cuba when one hears its many protestations of fear about what it claims the Patriot Act is doing. Cuba in fact censors, represses, runs political prisons and controls what its citizens may read and listen to directly through the laws of Castro. NO WHERE in the Partriot Act is ANYONE prohibited from reading whatever they want or in protesting the Patriot Act, from calling the President any number of things, or from talking about how great it would be for America to lose the war and become a radical moslem state. In Cuba to talk about Cuba becoming a multiparty, non-Castro ruled dcitatorship gets one in jail. I wonder that you do not see the difference.
Not everyone to the left of the staff of the Heritage Foundation is a Marxist. Go to the ALA website and read for a while, and then we'll talk. After you're informed from a primary source, rather than what somebody said that somebody said that somebody heard on talk radio.
>>>I will be pleased to. And please read some info on the reality of living in a totalitarian state like Cuba. Or even take astroll through google. I have posted a few, broad based sources, on this on CE.
Respectfully,
Ed
