You make a good point about not just letting the whole thing slide. The speculation right now is worse than any results the investigation could come up with. I have no real objection to an investigation. I just know it would decay into a political circus like Watergate, the Clinton perjury, and other such things, with political posturing and rhetoric by both parties obscuring the real issues.
