A really good question.

They were liberal in the sence that they bnelieved that all power should eminate from the people as opposed to the government. That was a very radical idea that we still struggle with to this day: Do we really have any rights beyond those which the government allows us???

But with that said, I think they would be far right extreemists by today's standards...Most were strongly protestant in their views...And most (if not all) were wealthy landowners who stood to lose a lot if an all-powerful government were somehow created by their actions.

Keep in mind that most of the founding father's believed that only landowners should be allowed the right to vote...Think how pro-business and pro-economic growth our country would be today if if that was still the standard requirement to vote.
