Despite Tom's fervent hope that recognition of the similarity is only a conspiracy organized by the DNC, I independently noticed the similarity with Nixon. I don't receive any instructions or other communication from anybody associated with the Democratic Party.

It started when Tenet obligingly "took responsibility" for the false claim in the SOTU address, and the next day Bush pronounced his faith in Tenet and reassured him he'd never be fired. Responsibility without consequences...reminded me of Nixon's characterization of Haldeman and Ehrlichmann as "the two finest public servants I've ever known".

Then Hadley, Rice's assistant, was thrown to the wolves, pleading that he'd just "forgotten" Tenet's warning; and I thought of John Dean and his faulty "recollection" of events surrounding Watergate. Hadley too remains in a position of "responsibility" at the White House.

The similarity between Bush and Nixon is painfully obvious. It doesn't take "talking points" from the DNC for anyone who's familiar with history to see it.
