Current Events » in reply to How "Nixonian".....a synchronicity

CBS and you are both stuck in an early 70s timewarp.

Nixonian doesn't even mean anything to anyone under 40. To folks between 30-40 it vaguely means something but not much. To the folks who are 18-30 the term is meaningless, akin to saying someone is whiggish or Victorian. ("Is that like wearing stuff from Victoria's secret?" they ask in all seriousness)

Perhaps to the CBS dead-enders who grew up admiring Dan Blather and mimicking his elitist liberal deadpan - the term Nixonian is some horrible phrase. To "reg'lar folks" its a sign that someone is living in the past - and certainly not talking to them. The CBS folks are talking to a few geriatric Bostonians, New Yorkers and others who think of themselves as the gentry of the US.

To folks like me, who know intimately the struggles and accomplishments of the man - its not an insult, but a unintentioned compliment. From the days of Alger Hiss to advising Clinton against GOP party elders wishes - the Nixon story is so much more than Watergate as Mount Everest is to Long Beach's Signal Hill. The man's accomplishments far outweigh his failings and at his core he was a man whose primary efforts were always desirous of serving the United States.

The dirty tricks emotionalizes folks who commit them - reporters are the biggest offenders. The mirror principle applies here as in all these instances. CBS is a snake-in-the-grass and they are envious of anything that seems sneaky or underhanded that they didn't think up first. If you see folks as Nixonian perhaps you too have sneaky unrecognized aspects of your personality you have yet to realize...
