I stand by every word of that paragraph. In his effort to make a point Don has unknowingly become the very unsympathetic guy with a pale pallor at the local mortuary who sees profit in death.

Don uses troop deaths to prove the war is somehow a failure, therefore continued deaths become a requisite to his premise. In other words if folks stop dying and everything is under control, his whole premise is jeopardized. Don is mimicking the media's desperate hopes for Vietnamization of this conflict, even though it has already been won, by listing casualties.

It may be a flame, but if I posted daily AIDS victim tallies to illustrate my personal belief how flawed homosexuality is, no one would question how poor taste such posts would be and how callous. I could post links to the obituaries of AIDS activists, ACT-UP casualties, etc and create daily updates on folks known to be sick with AIDS.

You may not see it, perhaps because you don't want to see it, but Don's posts are in the poorest of taste and if the topic were different you wouldn't tolerate such hateful posts from me or anyone else on the board in the effort to prove a personal belief.

Or let me use good ol' Lee (Sorry Lee;-).... if he started posting major daily crimes from all over the US which were committed by African-Americans to illustrate some personal belief regarding genetics - how would you feel about that? How would the members of this board feel about that? The posts would be valid current news items. Lee could hide behind that fact the same way Don hides behind his efforts to "inform" the board. There would be absolutely no difference at all. The only difference is one you find objectionable and the other is not because it coincides or meshes more with your own viewpoints.

You see perhaps a bit better how the land lays now? I find endless casualty reports equally tasteless and especially callous when you know the intent behind posting them. If we are going to be chastising Lee for posting a link to the "Beat a White Kid day" and yet get all bent out of shape when I simply point out what Don is doing is tasteless and callous then I think the folks on the left here are demonstrating an amazing double standard.

You will note I didn't call upon Don to cease and desist or that he should be banned because he is "offensive" - not at all. Each must learn of their actions on their own. I can only hope to help spur some of those realizations.

But I am not going to sit idly by and watch the board become Don's personal obituary pages without any comment either.
