I'm also aware that there is a high correllation between the ability to afford lawyers, accountants, lobbyists, politicians in your pocket and how much money you've got, and what kind of a discount you can get on your tax bill.
The conservative money machine is willing to spend whatever it takes--anonymously, in order to maximize their take home. They do this not just by being able to hire an expensive caste of scribes that allows them to exploit these laws, but also by ensuring they can create the statutes and legislation that make those specialists necessary. They are not doing this out of love of country or committment to a political philosophy.
Many politicians on both left and right proudly display their IRS documents to demonstrate their civic virtue to the electorate. If Mr Romney was that proud of his tax record he'd be dying to show it off to us, wouldn't he?
