A fact not lost on you if you know the details.
A 2 Liter bottle of Soda, let's call it Dr Whatever retails at about $1.19 average here. It costs the Grocery store about $00.77, the production cost is about $00.59 (Delivered). Of that 59 cents about 29 is the cost of the bottle, the single largest cost in the entire production chain, maybe with the exception of labor.
The cost of the product inside? Less than 14 cents according to someone I know in middle management of a local bottler.
Packaging is one of the largest costs in production of most consumer goods costing less than $10.00 in the US. We get our merchandise vaccuum blister packaged with a ton of high end graphic paper or plastic. And that unendndingly irritating Styrofoam crap.
