re: We may actually agree on this one

What the Israelis need to do is focus their efforts on defending the security of their own people and land. The need to gain internatonal sympathy by acting in a manner that clearly shows that they are the true victims here.

And how exactly do they do this? How does one defend the security of your people and land while refusing to deal with the ones killing your children? Force fields? How do the Israelis propose to get more sympathy? Mothballing the tanks and helicopters, and then dying in droves while the Palestinian radicals consolidate new bases in their territories, recruit new troops, assemble bombs, dig tunnels from Gaza, and proceed with their single goal of the extinction of every Jew in the Middle East?

I wish I knew the answer.

Again, the Islamic radicals use the virtues of a civilized nation against that nation. Remember the Arab in Iraq who laughed at the compassionate American soldier, calling him "stupid?" The Palestinians utililize to the fullest the knowledge that Israel is reluctant to commit the kind of wholesale violence and war against its neighbors that would root out the terror groups once and for all.

An uncivilized nation, under this kind of provocation, would resort to genocide, or forced exile of the entire Palestinian people. This would work, of course, but given Israel and the Jewish people's own history of suffering, would irredeemably poison the nation of Israel for all time. What possible shred of morality could be left if a nation built partly to commemorate and honor the Jews who died in the Holocaust resorted to genocide and pogroms to accomplish its ends?
