It's the cookies.

I have the same problem on two identical machines running XP and IE6 - both using the same VDSL carrier. One travels the internet on medium security and accepts cookies, the other blocks all cookies. The one blocking cookies is crawling slowly - even opening up IE6 becomes a twenty second delay sometimes - which with it's processor is totally unacceptable performance.

Microsoft needs to hire some competent help and completely re-release an update to XP and provide it free of charge to folks with an authentic XP certificate. XP has been the most patched and screwed up OS ever. The more patches they create - the more messed up the coding has obviously become - and some script kiddies out there are probably targeting the patch code for new weaknesses.
