I was speaking out of sheer frustration, kind of like Dr. Atomic's "I know! I'll build a spaceship and TO HELL WITH THEM ALL!" I would not seriously support radical isolationism.
I frankly don't think isolationism works, although many libertarians and conservatives feel that we should adopt such a policy, and make a good moral case for it. It certainly has an appeal, similar to the motives that haul some people out into the woods to form self-sufficient communes or militia groups.
It might have worked when Jefferson was alive, and it took two weeks to get here from Europe. It won't work now, when the world is already so interdependent that what I eat for breakfast often comes from the other side of the planet.
