With a little bit of information collected from various places and a little bit of imagination, a person can create a lot of wonderful stories.
My story on this subject is as follows: After the second world war my parents heard about a 'seer' a person of exceptional qualities that could 'see' the future. My parents, being curious, went to see the performance which was presented to the public. The 'seer' was a middle aged lady, somewhat taller but lower in weight than the average person. The presentation was in a large hall, a bed had been placed in the stage area, after some prayers the 'seer' went into a trance state where her body was as stiff as a board. While she was in this trance state she was placed on to the bed, the bed was little bit too short for her, so that when she was lowered on the bed her feet protruded past the foot of the bed and through the metal posts that were part of that 'foot'.
She was asked several questions by the audience and she gave answers to everyone of them. One question was: "When will our civilization end." Her answer was: When the doghead star leaves its orbit and comes to Earth.
After that answer she levitated through the air and grabbed the coat lapels of one of the three men that had come in during the questioning session. She said to the person; I know why you came here and you have no power, at which point all three men lost all color from their faces and began to tremble.
I was a youngster when I heard the story and the possible existence of a 'doghead star' intrigued me. I searched for it but did not find stars or planets or anything that mentioned or resembled a 'doghead'; that is, until I saw the NASA photos of the moons of Mars; sure enough, one of them resembled the 'head of a dog'. Now, even if the moon of Mars was the 'doghead star' that the 'seer' was talking about, how could it leave its orbit. I read somewhere that one of the moons of Mars had a retrograde orbit and some other anomalous behavior and it could be an artificial satellite. OK then, lets suppose this speculation to be true. If the beings on Mars were intelligent enough to construct satellites of that size, I think they would be intelligent enough to figure out how to get it out of orbit. But why would they do that and why would they aim it at the Earth.
Let's suppose that the situation was reversed. Lets suppose that we had the ability to travel to and from space as easily as taking an airplane flight. Under such circumstances it would be easy to construct very large satellites in orbit and use them as outposts or out of the world restaurants. Now suppose that Mars also had intelligent life forms on it, and suppose that their societies were very violent and cannibalistic. Now suppose that some Earthlings had gone to Mars but all had been killed and eaten or dissected and studied by the Martians.
These Martians are not stupid although they are violent war like creatures, they have learned how to get into space and have sent some probes to Earth. They have ignored all signals that we have sent towards them and now are planning to come to Earth in person, rather than just sending probes.
What should we do:
1) Should we declare a preemptive war and direct our biggest artificial satellite towards them and that way blow them out of the sky?
2) Should we take all our spacecraft, including the satellites, and go into their vicinity of space, just to show them that there is intelligent life on Earth and that we have more resources and knowledge of space than they do, in the process hoping that they will not attack us with their nuclear weapons.
3) Or should we collect all our people and equipment, get into our biggest spaceships and retreat into more hospitable regions of space, far enough so that these war mongers can not get to us.
What would YOU do?
