An addendum to your commentary
which I pretty much agree with, btw.
Recall how during the dark days leading up to the 2000 election, all we heard from the right was an endless succession of:
He sticks to his principles
He keeps his promises
He does not govern by popularity poll
He keeps everything open and above board
He is for smaller government
He is fiscally conservative
He is a compassionate conservative (which I always took to mean slightly more socially liberal than Tom Delay)
blah, blah, blah
Now if his record shows he is none of that, can you provide any reason for keeping him (other than "He's still better than anything the Dems have to offer")?
