How long could they hold on to their sovereignty?

There isn't any military to give back to them. In the Gulf War, we left them with some capability to defend themselves against Iran. Now there is none.

It's impractical to pack our bags and have to return to fight another war in defense of Iraq.

It also wouldn't surprise me to see civil war break out while we were leaving. With the amount of weaponry Saddam handed out before the war, it would be a mess.

If we were to leave now, Iraq would likely dissolve and the ROW would be pissed off.

If we stay the ROW still complains.

It's close to a catch 22 but not quite.

More like dealing with a spoiled child.
