Ah, yes. The "Robin Hood Principle."

If someone has something, and you don't, and you think you need it more than they do, you have the right to take it by force.

Once you cut through all the malarky about "social responsibility" and "fairness" and all the rest, that's what's left.

Robin Hood just played the middle man. The government does it here.

The discerning individual will notice that this philosophy is also that of the guy who holds you up at the ATM machine.

The average American citizen would be appalled by the idea of going door-to-door in their town asking for money to pay for their prescriptions, buy food, pay for gasoline, or anything else. They would be horrified at the idea of taking a gun along in case a neighbor gave "no" for an answer.

Yet this process is not only considered normal, but virtuous when sanitized through the process of government wealth redistribution.

I don't accept this as moral or right, and know damn well I'm not going to convince anyone else here of that. The idea has been burned into our culture now that the more you have, the more people can take from you.

I paid over thirty thousand in taxes last year, and just got dinged for another thousand the IRS overlooked this month. I think that gives me the right to complain a bit. And frankly, most of the people who are just fine with the system pay little or no income taxes at all. Oddly, they all get exactly the same services from the government as I do.

Having only a few voters on the producing end, and a whole lot of voters on the receiving end is, of course, why politicians love wealth redistribution.

What's sad about the whole idea of Robin Hood is that it has long been forgotten that what he originally did was return tax money to those who had been cruelly taxed to death under oppressive leaders.
