Christians, jews and hindis wore exactly the same in my school.
A few years later, a jewish school opened and half of the jews left our school for the new one.
Communautarization (or communitization, I'm not sure of the word in english) is strongly fought in France and accepted in the UK.
In Belgium, it's in between.
Besides, I wear a tie at the office all the time and it has much to do with the school years.
My school has always been praised for the kind of education it provided.
